Dr. McClure has more than thirty years of leadership experience in education and public affairs. He has served as Professor, Dean, Vice President, Provost, and Vice Chancellor in seven Colleges and Universities including Arizona State University, The University of Tennessee, California State University –Sacramento and LeMoyne-Owen College. A number of organizations across the nation have honored Dr. McClure for his advocacy in improving the quality of life for all citizens. These awards include “ the Mary Ellen Award “ as child advocate of the year, a citation of merit from the California State Senate and Assembly, the “Eddie Valdez Award” for leadership in children’s mental health , and the “Simply the Best Award” from the Black Business Directory of Memphis.
His community leadership positions are many and varied. His activities include serving on the Board of Governors of the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis ;chairing the board of directors of the United Way of the Mid South; chairing a gubernatorial commission which developed a statewide children’s mental health system; chairing the board of directors of the Memphis Redbirds Triple A Baseball Team Foundation; designing and implementing Tennessee’s most acclaimed and effective “welfare to work” initiative; serving as a member of Humanities Tennessee , Goals for Memphis Inc. , the Leadership Academy, and the faculty of University of Tennessee Leadership Development Institute; serving as president of a regional mental health association; and serving on local boards of directors of the American Heart Association , the Urban League, and United Housing Inc. He was a member of the Leadership Memphis class of 1994.
Dr. McClure holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. degree from Brandeis University.
